Section B. Statistical Methods

B1. Respondent Universe and Sampling Methods

Individuals will be identified through PubMed, Google Scholar, and Biomed Scholar searches, personal recommendations, participant lists of NCI-sponsored meetings, and academic or private sector members of NCI-funded clinical and translational consortia. Attachment 2 provides a roster of contacts (or their alternate) from 28 universities and cancer centers we have identified to have training programs in cancer epidemiology. The individuals identified either direct or are actively involved in the training of pre-doctoral and post-doctoral fellows. We will send the initial invitation email to these identified individuals.

B2. Procedures for the Collection of Information

Individuals will receive an email invitation to participate in the interviews (Attachment 3). Attached with the email invitation will be the consent form and survey questions so the respondents can preview prior to agreeing. If the invitees agree to participate, they will be emailed the consent form again to read, sign, and return by email or FAX (Attachment 4). Interviews will not be scheduled until a signed consent form is obtained. Respondents will be surveyed by telephone interview (Attachment 4).

B3. Methods to Maximize Response Rates and Deal with Nonresponse

Data from our test survey (N=4) suggest that the response rate is 100%, requiring no more than two attempts. Individuals will be contacted via a second time to request their feedback (Attachment 5). If there is no response, no other contact will be attempted.

B4. Test of Procedures or Methods to be Undertaken

There are no tests of procedures or methods to be undertaken as part of this project.
