The information will be used by the
Maritime Administration (MarAd) to fulfill its statutory obligation
in determining U.S. flag availability. The information collected
ensures that the Maritime Administrator has sufficient information
on the capacity and schedule of U.S.-flag vessels in order to make
determinations required by 46 U.S.C. § 501(b).
MarAd would not have
sufficient accurate, timely, or complete information regarding the
availability of coastwise-qualified vessels to discharge MarAd's
statutory duties or to make U.S.-flag vessel availability
determinations.
