This collection is necessary to verify
that pomegranates from Chile have been produced, handled, and
imported in accordance with U.S. regulatory requirements.
Since the fig portion of the
rule was extremely controversial, it was decided the import of figs
from Chile will be addressed in a subsequent action at a later
date. Therefore, the current rule only addressed the comments
received on the proposed import of pomegranates from Chile. Burden
hours for the final rule therefore dropped due to excluding figs
from the final rule. Previously, 860 hours of burden were reported
for figs and pomegranates, and currently 158 burden hours are
reported for pomegranates only.
