The universe for ACS is women 15 to 50 in 2009 who had a birth in the past year, although only women aged 15-44 are used in this table to ensure proper comparisons.

/ When the margin of error is added to or subtracted from the point estimate, it produces a 90 percent confidence interval.

/ Vital Statistics data reflect the age of the mothers at the time of child's birth. CPS and ACS data indicate age of women at survey date.
/ Race of mother. CPS and ACS data refers to White only; White only, not Hispanic; Black only; and Asian only (these differ and are not necessarily comparable to the Vital statistics race categories of White, not Hispanic; Black; and Asian and Pacific Islander ).
/ Origin of mother.

/ CPS data refer to marital status of women at the time of interview and include as currently married never married women at the time of their first birth who subsequently married by the time of the interview. Vital Statistics data refer to marital status at the time of the birth. ACS data refer to currently married versus or separated as married and widowed, divorced, or never married as unmarried.
/ 0.6 percent of birth certificates did not report birth order to Vital Statistics.
