Firms performing under Federal
construction contracts that require the installation of machinery
or other equipment must provide information regarding the equipment
to the Government. The information is used to assure that the
equipment satisfies the Government's needs.
GSA Public Building Service
management specialists indicate that there is no centralized
database system that maintains statistics on the number of
contractors that supply the Government with information regarding
the machinery, mechanical and other equipment to be incorporated
into the work under construction contracts. They estimate that
3,160 contractors a year submit the required information. GSA
estimates that it takes approximately 1.5 hours for each contractor
to read and prepare the information needed for the material and
workmanship descriptions.
