Survey Instruments for the Annual Arts Benchmarking Survey

Introduction:
The second of the two instruments that will be used for the Annual Arts Benchmarking Survey
(AABS) is provided below. They will be conducted on a rotating basis, in alternating years. The
questions on arts attendance and arts learning will be fielded in February 2013 and February
2015, while the questions on arts creation and performance will be fielded in February 2014.

Instrument 2: Arts Creation and Performance

1. Did you work with pottery, ceramics, or jewelry?
2. Did you do any leatherwork, metalwork or woodwork?
3. Did you do any weaving, crocheting, quilting, needlepoint, knitting, or sewing?
4. Did you play a musical instrument?
5. Did you do any acting?
6. Did you perform or practice any dance?
7. Did you do any social dancing, including dancing at weddings, clubs, or other social
settings?
8. Did you perform or practice any singing?
9. Did you create any films or videos?
10. Did you take any photographs as an artistic activity?
11. Did you create any other visual art, such as paintings, sculpture, or graphic designs?
12. Did you do any creative writing, such as: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or plays?
