The National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration's (NOAA) Northeast Science Center's Social Science
Branch (SSB) in Woods Hole, MA intends to perform two surveys among
participants in the commercial fishing industry in the Northeast
Region (New England and the Mid-Atlantic states). The surveys will
cover commercial fishing vessel owners (the owners' survey) and
crew, including hired captains, (the crew survey). The surveys will
collect representative data on owners and crew at the fishery
level. These surveys will be implemented annually to allow for
tracking trends over time. SSB will use the data collected through
these surveys to track performance measures related to commercial
fisheries management in the Northeast Region.
