RE: Docket Number 0535-0247, Distiller’s By-Product Survey

On behalf of the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), I would like to thank you and those you represent for your correspondence regarding our upcoming Distiller’s Co-Products Survey.

The decision has been made to conduct a livestock and poultry producer Distillers Co-Product survey in 2012. At this time, we do not plan to conduct the survey on a monthly or weekly basis but on a five year rotation. Current plans are to expand the survey and collect co-product information from livestock and poultry producers in all states with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii. The 2012 survey will be a livestock and poultry producer only survey. Your suggestions were well received and we do see the value in producing statistics from other co-product users. As our Energy Program here at NASS continues to evolve, we could potentially collect and publish data from exporters or ethanol plants in the future.

Please give me a call at (202)720-7216 with any questions you may have regarding the 2011 Distiller’s Co-Products Survey. I can also be reached by email at Jim_Johnson@nass.usda.gov.

Thank you for your time and participation.
