RE: Docket Number 0535-0247, Distiller’s By-Product Survey
On behalf of the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), I would like to thank you and
those you represent for your correspondence regarding our upcoming Distiller’s Co-Products
Survey.
The decision has been made at this time to conduct a livestock and poultry producer Distillers
Co-Product survey in 2012. Algae sounds like an up and coming opportunity that agricultural
producers should consider in their enterprises. The National Agricultural Statistics Service
(NASS) is the data collection arm for the USDA. The agency that it sounds like you should get
in touch with and discuss your program ideas is the Agricultural Research Service. I am
attaching a link to their web site below.

NASS is starting a five year rotational Energy Program that will focus on measuring different
agricultural related energy items of interest. If you feel we can be of some assistance in
measuring what is currently being done in the agricultural community for algae related energy
use, please contact Nick Pallotta at 202.720.6564.
Please give me a call at (202)720-7216 with any questions you may have regarding the 2011
Distiller’s Co-Products Survey. I can also be reached by email at
Jim_Johnson@nass.usda.gov.
Thank you for your time and participation.
