General Requirements
• The system shall enforce a worldwide consistent data collection for all
general non-immigrant visa applicants, so that there is only one application
process.
• The system shall dynamically present questions that are relevant to the
user’s application process.
• The system shall not display duplicate questions or substantially overlapping
questions.
• The system shall display commas to show thousands, millions, etc. (e.g.

• The system shall automatically calculate totals.
• The system shall require the user to enter at least the month and year for all
dates with the exception of date of birth, where only the year is required.
• The system shall determine if the user is the principal applicant or

• The system shall require the user to populate all fields unless ‘Optional’ or ‘If
shown on passport’ is displayed or if the user checks a corresponding ‘Do Not
Know’, ‘Does Not Apply’, or ‘Not Applicable’ checkbox.
• The system shall not allow the user to remove the last item from a list if there
is no leading question that triggers the list.
• If a leading question triggers additional fields and the user removes the last
item from the list, the system shall automatically switch the answer to the
leading question to the opposite answer (i.e. if ‘Yes’ to a question triggers
additional fields, then the system will default the answer to ‘No’ if all items from
the list are removed.)
• The ‘+Add Another | -Remove’ functionality shall be displayed under the blue
box it is intended for. When the user clicks on ‘+ Add Another’, the system shall
duplicate all fields in the blue box.
