MARAD should
work independently with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) over the
shortened approval period, to ensure that burden is accounted for
appropriately, and, that there is no duplication between this
collection and any USCG collections. By August 1, MARAD should
update OMB on the status of these discussions. Further, it appears
that this collection may be misclassified in ROCIS as a revision
(rather than an extension, due to a change in estimates). Upon
resubmission, MARAD should verify that the collection is classifed
properly.

To assist parties charged with
implementing the education and training provisions of Section 109
of the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002, MARAD has
developed a voluntary program of maritime security course approval.
Course providers wishing to have their courses designated as
incorporating the standards and curriculum developed under Section
109 may submit a Request for Course Approval in accordance with the
elements described in this collection.
Due to the lack of funds, fewer
providers submitted Maritime Security Training courses for
approval.
