Non-substantive Change Request

EDA proposes the following changes to the annual “Excellence in Economic Development” Award program:
1. Change the title of award program to the “Innovation in Economic Development Awards.”
2. Combine the seven previously-used categories to four more general categories that are more in line with EDA’s current priorities:
New Award Categories:
Innovation in Regional Innovation Clusters (RICs)
Innovation in Commercialization
Innovation in Global Export Promotion
Innovation in Green Technology
Previous Categories:
Excellence in Urban or Suburban Development
Excellence in Rural Economic Development
Excellence in Environmental and Energy Economic Development
Excellence in University-led Strategies
Excellence in Economic Diversification Strategies
Excellence in Community and Faith-Based Social Entrepreneurship
Excellence in Historic Preservation-led Strategies
3. Make the entry form accessible online. EDA wants to announce the award program/call for applications on June 14, 2010 and the form will be online accessible at this time. All applications will be submitted through EDA’s website (a fillable/fileable application, where additional documents like a summary of programs, support letters, and project photos can be uploaded, i.e., USA Jobs). No paper forms will be used.
EDA anticipates receiving the same amount of entries as in past years, and the amount of time to complete the application will remain the same, since the submission requirements will be the same as last year—just submitted electronically, rather than by mail. For this change request, no change in responses and burden hours is anticipated.
