Motor carriers of passengers and
property must maintain documentation that proves they have in
effect the minimum levels of financial responsibility as set forth
in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs).
US Code:
49
USC 31139 Name of Law: Motor Carrier Act of 1980
US Code: 49
USC 31138 Name of Law: Bus Regulatory Reform Act of 1982
This program adjustment is due
to a decrease in the estimated annual burden hours from 4,529 to
4,056 and a change in the estimated total annual responses from
96,298 to 134,540 for the current insurance filing activity and
registration information requirements. Revisions to labor costs
reflect the most current data available on wages, fringe benefits,
and overhead. Last, the previously approved supporting statement
erroneously counted the number of motor carriers subject to
financial responsibility requirements as respondents. In fact, the
forms that comprise this information collection are completed and
filed on the carriers behalf by a small number of insurers. The
number of respondents has been revised down accordingly to reflect
this.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
The following is a summary of the topics, regarding
the proposed collection of information, that the certification
covers:
(i) Why the information is being collected;
(ii) Use of information;
(iii) Burden estimate;
(iv) Nature of response (voluntary, required for a
benefit, or mandatory);
(v) Nature and extent of confidentiality; and
(vi) Need to display currently valid OMB control
number;
If you are unable to certify compliance with any of
these provisions, identify the item by leaving the box unchecked
and explain the reason in the Supporting Statement.
