Special management areas on National
Forest System lands receiving high visitation, such as wilderness
and Wild and Scenic Rivers, may implement permit systems or
voluntary, self-registration systems to monitor use levels and
patterns. These forms collect basic data from visitors to these
areas. This data can then be used to estimate area usage, and can
also be of value to assist with search and rescue
activities.
