ANI Teacher Interview (to be administered at end of third Institute)

1. Are you currently teaching math to adults? What kind of program do you teach in? How long have you been teaching in that program? How long have you been teaching overall?

2. What have been your biggest challenges in teaching math to adults?

3. How confident or comfortable have you felt teaching math to adults in the past?

4. Do you feel more confident, or do you think you will be more comfortable teaching math as a result of your participation in the ANI Professional Development Program?

5. Can you tell me some of the things you learned from participating in the ANI Professional Development Program—first with regard to your knowledge of math and second, with regard to your knowledge of how to teach math? (probe for specific examples)

6. What specific aspects of the ANI Professional Development Program helped you in your learning? (probe for information about different Institutes, particular lesson or topic, or particular strategy, approach, or activity)

4. Can you tell me some of the things you learned from participating in the ANI Professional Development Program that you have used in your teaching this year—both with regard to your knowledge of math and with regard to your knowledge of how to teach math? (probe for specific examples)

5. What ideas or activities from ANI have you implemented this year?

6. Have there been any lasting changes in your understanding of mathematics or in how to teach math from the ANI Professional Development Program?

7. What have been your biggest challenges to using ANI ideas in your teaching?

8. Over the last year, what support for implementing changes in math instruction have you had?
