Subject: Request for Revision of a Currently Approved Collection for the Application for New Fellowships under the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program – CFDA No. 84.170A
Attached please find a request for OMB approval of a revision to a currently active information collection clearance package for OMB No. 1840-0562, the Application for New Fellowships under the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program, which expires August 31, 2009. The Department of Education is authorized to collect data under Title VII, Part A, Subpart 1 of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (20 U.S.C. 1134h-1134k).
Individual applications for new fellowships are accepted annually. The information collected is used by the Department of Education and the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Board for the purpose of evaluating the academic qualifications, eligibility and suitability of competing individual applicants based on the selection criteria identified in the program regulations.
Program staff has made both significant revisions to the instructional language and minor revisions to the Applicant Information Form within the application in order to improve the clarity of the document. However, we do not believe that these revisions will change the current burden.
