Survey of Health Insurance and Program Participation (SHIPP)
Underreporting Experiment
Respondent Debriefing Questionnaire
Upon completion of the questionnaire, administer a short debriefing as follows:
A. Explain to the respondent that there are three main goals of the questionnaire:
1. To determine whether anyone in the household now has health insurance coverage
2. If so, to determine what months during 2008 they also had any coverage
3. To determine the type of coverage (through a job, Medicaid, etc.)
B. Summarize for the respondent the health insurance status of all household members that was just reported in the standardized questionnaire.
C. Ask the respondent to verify whether this is accurate.
D. If there were any inaccuracies, probe the respondent for what was problematic about the questionnaire.
E. Review the hard copy questionnaire and probe the respondent on any items that were flagged as problematic during the standardized administration of the questionnaire (if these issues were not already covered in step D above).
F. Probe the respondent for any other reactions, comments or questions.
G. Thank the respondent and inform them that we may call again with a few short followup questions.
