MQ325A — INORGANIC CHEMICALS
(SHIPMENTS AND PRODUCTION)
DEFINITIONS AND SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Scope of survey
c. Units of measure
This survey covers all manufacturers of selected
inorganic chemicals in the United States.
If possible, please report in terms of the basis and
unit of measure requested. If this is not possible,
be sure to indicate precisely the basis and unit of
measure which actually apply to the reported
figures. If neither basis nor unit of measure is
indicated on the form, report value of shipm ents
only. (See footnote (1) on Reference List.)
2. Figures to be reported
Companies with more than one establishment
manufacturing the products covered by this survey are
requested to complete a separate form for each
location. If you have not received a separate report
form for each of your establishments, please call the
contact shown on the report form or write to the U.S.
Census Bureau for additional forms.
a. Production
Report total quantity produced of each specified
chemical product, whether sold, transferred, added to
inventory, or used in further processing. Unless
otherwise instructed, when two or more physical forms
of a specific chemical are listed, report production
for each form, including quantities which are
subsequently used in producing other physical
modifications of the chemical. Include products made
elsewhere for this establishment on a contract basis
from materials supplied by you. Exclude products made
for you by others from their materials.
b. Quantity and value of shipments
The figures on quantity and value of shipments should
include the physical shipments of all products sold,
transferred to other establishments within your
company, or shipped on consignment, whether for
domestic or export sale. The value represents the net
sales price, f.o.b. plant, to the custom er or branch to
which the products are shipped, net of discounts,
allow ances, freight charges, and returns. Shipm ents to
your own branches should be assigned the same value
as comparable sales to unaffiliated customers, i.e., the
value includes an appropriate allocation of company
overhead and profit. Products bought and resold
without further manufacture or packaging should not be
included in shipments.

d. Columnar structure of the report
W hen posting your figures to the original report,
please be sure to report the information in the
correct columns:
Column 1 — Production
Column 2 — Quantity of shipm ents
Column 3 — Value of shipm ents
3. Definitions
The product detail for this survey, as shown in the
Reference List, is defined according to standard
nomenclature for this industry.

4. Comparability
If you also report in the Annual Survey of Manufactures (Form MA-10000), the sum of values
for item codes shown in column (a) should correspond to the dollar values reported under
product class codes indicated in column (b) below:

REFERENCE LIST
FORM MQ325A
INORGANIC CHEMICALS (SHIPMENTS AND PRODUCTION)
This reference list has been arranged to help you identify and list products on report Form MQ325A, Shipments and Production of
Inorganic Chemicals. To assist you in locating specific products, the list has been arranged by major product groupings. Within
product groupings, products are generally arranged alphabetically according to the metallic (basis) element. When a compound
contains two metallic elements, it should be reported according to the metal-giving properties for which the compound is
generally used, such as aluminates under aluminum compounds.
Report all quantities on Short Ton Basis (2,000 lbs.), unless otherwise instructed
