JACOB K. JAVITS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

(Title VII, Part A, Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended)

JACOB K. JAVITS ANNUAL STUDENT ACTIVITIES REPORT

Dear Jacob K. Javits Fellow:

The U.S. Department of Education is requesting performance information on current Javits Fellows who are completing this academic year. In compliance with the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA), the information you provide will assist program staff in tracking time-to-degree completion, the graduation rate, as well as the employment status of individual fellows.

As you know, the purpose of the Javits Fellowship is to provide financial assistance to students who demonstrate superior academic ability and achievement, exceptional promise, and financial need to undertake graduate study leading to a doctoral degree or master's degree in which the master's degree is the terminal highest degree being awarded in the selected field of study. Data collected from the Jacob K. Javits Annual Student Activities Report will be used to measure how successfully the program is meeting GPRA requirements. The two GPRA performance measures for the Javits Program are:

  1. Time to degree completion for Javits fellows will be less than the national average of 7.5 years

  1. The percentage of Javits Fellows obtaining graduate degrees will be greater than the national average (30%)

The GPRA efficiency measure for the Javits program is:

  1. The Federal cost per terminal degree (Ph.D., M.F.A.) awarded for the Javits Fellowship Program

Other data collected by the report will provide valuable information on how fellows finance the remainder of their graduate education beyond the 4-year performance period of the Javits fellowship and the types of employment they plan to pursue.

The online report and instructions will be accessible via the following URL on [insert date]: [insert URL].

Please submit this report no later than [insert date]. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact program officers Carmen Gordon (Carmen.Gordon@ed.gov) or Sara Starke (Sara.Starke@ed.gov) .
