This request is for a non-substantive change to the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NHAMCS) (OMB No. 0920-0278, expires 08/31/09). The NHAMCS is a national survey of patient visits to emergency and outpatient departments of general and short-stay hospitals. The NHAMCS is conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS).
NCHS is seeking approval to not display the OMB expiration date on the 2009 NHAMCS forms.
17. Reason Display of OMB Expiration Date is Inappropriate.
The NHAMCS is an ongoing survey and no changes to the forms are anticipated for 2009. Not displaying the expiration date on the 2009 forms would avoid the considerable cost of reprinting forms in the middle of a survey year. A full three-year clearance will be sought in 2009 and no data collection will take place after the current expiration date without a new approval.
