The regulations implement the
provisions of Public Law 103-322 by restricting the manufacture,
transfer, and possession of certain semiautomatic assault weapons
and large capacity ammunition feeding devices. The provisions are
no longer in effect however ATF requires that any records
pertaining to the sale or transfer of semiautomatic assault weapons
must still be retained for a period of 5 years as prescribed in the
regulations.
A program change is due to the
fact that the provisions of the Federal firearms laws (PL 103-322)
covering semiautomatic assault weapons and large capacity
ammunition feeding devices are no longer in effect. However the
regulations require licensees to retain documentation for a certain
period of time. The number of respondents has decreased as well as
a reduction in burden hours. Please note no form is associate with
this collection as it is strictly a recordkeeping requirement.
