Dear <Title> <Last Name>,

The National Science Foundation (NSF)/Division of Science Resources Statistics (SRS) is pleased to invite you to a focus group about postdoctoral researchers (postdocs).

Postdocs are on the national research agenda!

There is increasing interest in the implications of the postdoc experience for the U.S. labor force, higher education, and the research enterprise. Current government-collected information provides some counts and limited characteristics of postdocs. NSF/SRS is aware, however, that many types of information salient to the postdoc community are currently not available. Your input will help our future efforts to gather more salient and in-depth postdoc data.

The focus groups are conducted as part of the Postdoc Data Project (PDP), a multi-year NSF/SRS effort to determine the feasibility of gathering in-depth information about postdocs in the U.S. The sessions will take approximately 1½ to 2 hours. As a token of our appreciation for your participation, you will receive $50 at the completion of the session.

Our contractor, the Survey Sciences Group, LLC (SSG), will call you within the next few days to provide more detailed information on the dates and locations of the event. If you miss our call or prefer not to wait, please contact Tina Mainieri at (734) 213-4600 x104 or tmainieri@surveysciences.com.

Thank you in advance for your contribution to the national research agenda!
