Dear Boundary Waters Visitor:

Several weeks ago we wrote you asking for your participation in a study of how Boundary Waters visitors feel about Wilderness and their opinions of wilderness management and use in the Boundary Waters. As of today, we have not received your completed questionnaire.

Our research unit has undertaken this study because we believe that visitor input should be taken into consideration for planning and management of wilderness, specifically in the Boundary Waters.

We are writing to you again to request your participation because of the significance each questionnaire has to the usefulness of this study. You were chosen through a sampling process in which every visitor had an equal chance of being selected. In order for the results of this study to be truly representative of views of all Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness visitors, it is essential that each person in the sample return their questionnaire.

As mentioned in our last letter, we assure you that your name will not be associated with any of your answers. If you would like a summary of the results of this study, please write your name and address on the back of the return envelope. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at awatson@fs.fed.us or (406) 542-4197.

If you have already returned your completed questionnaire, we thank you very much. In the event that your questionnaire has been misplaced, we have enclosed a replacement.

Sincerely,

ALAN E. WATSON

Project Manager
