H – Yellowstone Study Introduction Page
Dear Yellowstone National Park Backcountry Visitor,
The National Park Service (NPS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are planning to conduct a survey to look at the health of backcountry users after using the parks. The information provided by this survey will help the NPS and CDC improve backcountry recommendations for future park visitors.
We are asking visitors 18 years of age and older traveling into the backcountry in Yellowstone National Park to participate. Participants will be asked to complete a questionnaire after they return from their backcountry trips. Participants may choose to complete the questionnaire on the Internet or in a paper-based mail-in format. The Internet-based questionnaire should take about 30 minutes to complete; the paper-based questionnaire should take about 50 minutes to complete.
This survey is voluntary and is not a requirement for obtaining a permit to enter the backcountry at Yellowstone National Park. However, we hope that you will participate in this important research to help NPS and CDC provide better information on health risks to backcountry users.
Please read and complete the accompanying form. This form should only take about 2 minutes to complete. You will then be contacted about the survey after you return from your backcountry trip.
Thank you for considering participation in this important survey.
