Survey Privacy
The Federal Government has a continuing commitment to monitor its awards to
identify and address any inequities based on gender, race, ethnicity, or disability of
the PIs/co-PIs, trainees, or other participants. Submission of the requested
information is not mandatory. If you do not wish to submit the information, please
mark the checkboxes provided for this purpose on the screens that follow.
Information from this data collection system will be retained by the NSF, a Federal
agency, and will be an integral part of its Privacy Act System of Records in
accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974 and maintained in the Education and
Training System of Records 63 Fed. Reg. 264, 272 (January 5, 1998). These are
confidential files accessible only to appropriate NSF officials, their staffs, and their
contractors responsible for monitoring, assessing, and evaluating NSF programs.
Only data in highly aggregated form, or data explicitly requested "for general use,"
will be made available to anyone outside of the NSF for research purposes. Data
submitted will be used in accordance with criteria established by NSF for
monitoring research and education grant and in response to Public Law 99-383 and
42 USC 1885c. The Social Security number (SSN) and date of birth will be
maintained in accordance with the requirements of the Privacy Act of 1974.
Submission of the SSN is voluntary. It is used for survey quality control, program
evaluation, and matching with other data sets maintained in the Education and
Training System of Records 63 Fed. Reg. 264, 272 (January 5, 1998).
Public Burden
Submission of the requested information is voluntary. Failure to provide full and
complete information, however, may reduce the possibility for continuing support
through the award/project subject to this survey. Pursuant to 5 CFR 1320.5(b), an
agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to an
information collection unless it displays a valid Office of Management and Budget
(OMB) control number. The OMB control number for this collection is 3145-0136.
The public reporting burden for this collection of information is estimated to
average 66 hours per award including the time for reviewing instructions. Each
Principal Investigators' average reporting burden is 34 hours and each trainee's
average reporting burden is 2 hours. Send comments regarding this burden
estimate or any other aspect of this collection of information, including suggestions
for reducing this burden, to Suzanne Plimpton, Reports Clearance Officer for OMB
Collection 3145-0136 (IGERT Program), Facilities and Operations Branch, Division
of Administrative Services, National Science Foundation, 4201 Wilson Blvd., Suite
295, Arlington, VA 22230.

IGERT HIGHLIGHTS
In the text box below, please describe what you consider to be the most beneficial and exciting
aspects of being an IGERT associate. These might include 1) an opportunity you have had as a
result of being an IGERT associate that has significantly affected your professional development,
2) an aspect of the project that provided exceptional "added value" to your educational
experience, or 3) an aspect of the project that has been especially successful and/or represents
a real change from the way that graduate students are usually educated at your institution. If
you have already described the highlights on a previous screen, please identify the screen. You
must, also describe them here; however, you can copy and paste your description here from the
previous screen. (word limit: 250)
IGERT CONCERNS
In any new program, there are some elements that are slower to develop or less successful than
others. In this text box, please describe what you consider to be the least successful or least
well-developed (to date) elements of the IGERT program with which you are associated. Please
offer any suggestions you may have for making IGERT a stronger and more effective graduate
education program. If you have already described your concerns on a previous screen, please
identify the screen. You must, however, describe them here as well. You can copy and paste
your description here from the previous screen. (word limit: 250)
