Selene Player Terms of Service

NASA believes games can prepare people with just the right knowledge to be successful at learning, but it needs to conduct research to see if this is true. The Selene game introduces players ages 13-18 to concepts about the moon’s geology. Researchers will track players’ gameplay to study how the Selene game helps players to learn about the geology of the moon.

The entire game session of video and gameplay should take you about one hour. However, the length of time you spend on the study session depends on how long you play the game. After completing the study, you can choose to return to the http://selene.cet.edu/play web site to play the game as often as you wish.

  1. By registering for the Selene game, you agree that:

  • You are between the ages of 13 and 18.

  • You were sponsored by a Selene project recruiter.

  • You received your access code from a Selene recruiter.

  • You will keep your access code secret.

  • Your parents/guardian (if you’re under the age of 18) read the informed consent form.

  • Your parents/guardian (if you’re under the age of 18) told your recruiter you have permission to play the game and participate in the NASA study.

  • You will record your user name and password in a safe place. The game will not collect any personally identifiable information about you, so if you forget your user name and password, you will not be able to access the game or the Selene web site activities.

  • You give the Selene game permission to track all your activities within the Selene web site during and after the Selene study session.

  • Selene owns all data collected through the Selene site.

  • You will complete the entire game: an introductory module, level one of the game, transitions between game stages and modules, and level two of the game.

  • You know that the game will track all of your gameplay activity.

  • You know that all player data is anonymous.

  1. You agree that:

  • You will keep the details of the Selene game a secret during May 2007, the time of the study.

  • You will keep your user name and password secret.

  • You will never share your user name and password.

  • You will never let anyone else use your user name and password to access the game or site.

  • You will try your best to accomplish game goals.

  • You will complete all parts of the study session to the best of your ability.

  1. Selene players must be able to see, hear and physically control the computer mouse and keyboard. You agree that you have these three abilities.

  1. Throughout the game, the Selene game will ask each player to report your level of skill and challenge. The prompt will ask two questions:
