When you apply for your pension, PBGC must give you a benefit estimate that shows the
amount you are entitled to in each of the benefit forms that is available to you for the date you
plan to retire. If you are married, one of the estimates you request must show your spouse as the
beneficiary even if you do not plan on taking a benefit that pays survivor benefits or you plan on
designating someone other than your spouse as your beneficiary. This is required so that you
and your spouse can make an informed decision when you elect the benefit form you want to
