Regulation SHO is designed to limit
short selling of a security in a declining market by requiring that
no short sale be executed at a price below the consolidated best
bid, with exceptions. All broker-dealers must mark all sell orders
in equity securities as either "long,""short," or short exempt."
The purpose of the information is to enable regulators to monitor
whether a person effecting a short sale is acting in accordance
with Regulation SHO.
