The regulations at 43 CFR 3100 and
3200 provide for the leasing of oil and gas and geothermal
resources on Federal lands. The Bureau of Land Management uses the
information to determine the highest bonus bid submitted for a
competitive oil and gas or geothermal parcel and to complete
environmental reviews to be in compliance with the requirements of
the National Environmental Policy Act. Respondents are individuals,
small companies and large corporations who submit bids on available
lands and conduct geothermal geophysical operations.
