Justification for Change in Burden for the Survey of Industrial Research & Development

The Census Bureau asked respondents in this survey how long it takes to fill out the forms. Based on the results of that inquiry, we are reducing the estimated time it takes to complete the form RD-1 from 18.5 hours to 8 hours. The annual burden associated with this form (and the total burden of the collection) will therefore reduce by 31,500 hours. The estimated time to complete form RD-1A remains unchanged as does the burden of the ongoing methodological testing. The table below summarizes the burden of this collection.
