Susan Hill. This approval is for a "Regular Revision' to the SED,
not an 'Extension' of the current SED. Approval is granted to test
the salary question. NSF will document changes to the salary
question via submission of an 83-C that will show final format and
wording and results of cognitive testing.

The survey of Earned Doctorates (SED)
is an annual census survey of all (approximately 43,000)
individuals receiving research doctoral degrees from U.S.
institutions. The results of the survey are widely used to assess
trends in Ph.D production and plans for employment. This
information is vital for educatonal and labor force planners within
the Federal Government and in academia and elsewhere.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
