This collection
is approved with the following terms of clearance: BLS will include
a PRA burden statement on the diary instrument in the next
printing. BLS will provide a report to OMB on the results of the
incentive test in the interview survey and obtain OMB approval
prior to implementing an incentive beyond the test period or
testing an incentive in the diary survey.

The Consumer Expenditure Surveys are
used to gather information on expenditures, income, and other
related subjects. These data are used to periodically update the
national Consumer Price Index. In addition the data are used by a
variety of researchers in academia, government agencies, and the
private sector. The data are collected from a national probability
sample of house- holds designed to represent the total civilian
non-institutional population.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
