NCHS should
ensure that the public is aware that additional information on
individual chemicals, including scores, can be obtained by
contacting the Division of Laboratory Sciences. The public should
also be made aware of your plans to draft more specific criteria
for de-listing which will be made available for public comment.
Report to OMB in June 2005 via email a status report on efforts to
develop de-listing criteria. With respect to conducting any pilot
or nonresponse studies, OMB should receive via email a request that
describes the specific study design and response burden. OMB will
respond within 10 days indicating approval, disapproval, or
passback exchanges seeking further information. No pilot or
nonresponse studies should be conducted without receipt of approval
from OMB via email.

The National Health and Nutrition
Examination Surveys (NHANES) were conducted on a periodic basis
from 1971 to 1994. NHANES became a continuous, annual survey
program in 1999. Each year, a nationally representative sample of
the civilian, non-institutionalized U.S. population, all ages, is
interviewed and examined. NHANES data are released in two year
cycles. Data from NHANES 1999-2000 and NHANES 2001-2002 have been
released at various times over the past few years and are posted on
the NHANES website. The continuous data collection requires that
pilot tests of new or revised survey material....
