This study will estimate the risk for
endemic GI illness associated with drinking conventionally treated
groundwater and evaluate exposure to disinfection byproducts in the
same people. The study is a 12-month, double-blinded, randomized
intervention trial of 1,000 households in a large metropolitan area
in the southeastern U.S. with a community groundwater system that
uses conventional treatment, meet current water quality standards
and has a well-characterized distribution system with areas of
vulnerability. Study participants will report GI illness symptoms
