The FTC seeks to study how consumers
search for mortgages and mortgage information, the extent to which
borrowers understand mortgage terms and mortgage disclosures, and
how well consumers understand the terms of their own recent
mortgage transactions. The research will improve FTC staff
understanding of potential problems in the current mortgage
information environment and help staff to determine the extent to
which alternative disclosures might improve consumer understanding
of mortgage terms, consumer awareness of unfavorable terms, and
consumers' ability to comparison shop and identify less expensive
loans. The research
