The 2002 National Adult Assessment of
Literacy (NAAL) will assess the current status of the English
language skills of adults in the United States, as well as indicate
how literacy proficiencies have changed since the 1992 National
Adult Literacy Survey (NALS). The sample consists of adults 16
years of age and older who reside in private households at the time
of the assessment.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).

the proposed collection of information, that the certification
covers:
