Abstract: The Deaths in Custody series of data collections will assess the number and nature of inmate deaths that occur while in law enforcement custody. The series will provide the only source of this essential information at the national level. The data providers for this survey are confinement facilities usually operated by local law enforcement agencies, State prison administrators, State juvenile correctional administrators, along with State criminal justice statistical analysis centers.
