The USDA's Nutrient Data Laboratory's
study of the fluoride content of US tap water uses a sampling plan
developed to ensure unbiased estimation of the fluoride content at
the national level and variability. These data will be used to
provide national estimates of fluoride for water, water-based
beverages, and foods in the USDA National Nutrient Databank, for
subsequent use in fluoride intake assessment programs and in dental
research.
