The information is needed in order for
the consolidated group's common parent or agent to notify the
Commissioner that it will terminate its existence and to designate
another corporation to be the group's agent, pursuant to Treas.
Reg. Sec. 1.1502-77(d). The Commissioner will use the information
to determine whether to approve the designation and, if approved,
to change the IRS's records to reflect the name and other
information about the new agent.
