Clarification
point on electronic submission in Washington DC metro area. CFR 36
1254.4(b) requires that researchers apply in p erson at the
building records that the records are housed in. DC area facilities
allow for onsite electronic submission of the form for processing.
This form is not available thro ugh the Internet. However, even if
it were available through the Internet, the person would still need
to apply onsite. NARA is ex amining the possibility of making the
electronic application syst em nationwide, so when a researcher
goes to any of NARA's facilit ies, they would have the option of
completing the form electronic ally and submitting it for
processing.
