To protect the public health and
safety with regard to eyeglass and sunglass lenses, FDA, under 21
CFR 801.401(e) and (f), is requiring manufacturers of eyeglass and
sunglass lenses to maintain records describing sale and
distribution and results of impact tests and description of testing
methods for all impact- resistant lenses. These records are
valuable to the FDA when investigating complaints, and if the
records were not maintained by the manufacturers, FDA
investigations would be more difficult to conduct and the public
would not have the necessary protection from substandard eyeglasses
and sunglasses

the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
