The Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED)
is an annual Census survey of all (approximately 42,700)
individuals receiving resarch doctoral degrees from U.S.
institutions. The results of the survey are widely used to assess
trends in Ph.D. production. This information is vital for
educational and labor force planners within the Federal Government
and in academia and elsewhere.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
