Approved
consistent with ED's memo of 6/9/99. In addition, the following
terms apply: (1) OMB notes that ED made a commendable effort to
provide respondents with a combined deferment forms for the DL and
FFEL program. ED will, in the future, continue to monitor the
potential for combining these forms and update OMB in the next
clearance package. OMB further commends ED on the successful
combining of the DL and FFEL loan discharge/ /cancellation forms.
(2) The worksheets for the economic hardship deferment request
forms will not be considered a mandatory part of the form. ED will
encourage the FFEL community to make the sheets available where
appropriate, but not mandate it. (3) ED will continue its efforts
to move to a single identifier, the D-U-N-S. The next submission of
this package will implement use of the D-U-N-S in lieu of the
OPE-ID or any other institution identifier. If the next package
does not fully implement the D-U-N-S as the single identifier, ED
will provide a specific strategy and timeline for full
implementation of the D-U-N-S for these forms. (4) ED will submit
an updated version of the package to OMB if any changes to the form
are necessary as a result of regulations coming out of the HEA
Negotiated Rulemaking process.
