The five regional Bell Operating
Companies and GTE are requested to submit reports to the Common
Carrier Bureau describing their progress in phasing out three-digit
Carrier Identification Codes (CICs). The data request is necessary
to evaluate the status of developing competition in the long
distance telecommunications markets. The information will be used
by the Commission to determine whether the phase-out of three-digit
CICs is being implemented.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
