Vessels participatiing in Antarctic
fisheries must mark the vessel's fishing gear with the official
vessel identification number, Federal permit or tag number, or some
other specified form of identification. The information is used for
enforcement purposes. The authority for this requirement comes from
the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Management and Conservation Act and
the Antarctic Marine Living Resources Convention Act of
1984.
