Abstract: In its contracts for construction, alteration, and repair of ships, the Department requires each selected contractor to procure and maintain insurance as specified in the CAR clause 1352.217-109 "Insurance Requirements." The clause also requires the contractor to submit proof of this insurance to the contracting officer before the work under the contract is authorized to start.
