Legislation requires that "the
Secretary consider, among other factors, ...if any lessening of the
utility or the performance of the products is likely to result from
the imposition of the standard" (42 U.S.C. sec.
6295(o)(2)(B)(i)(IV)). The Office of Codes and Standards is seeking
to form focus groups and conduct a survey to determine the value
consumers' place on various clothes washer attributes. The Office
will then consider if the new efficiency standard negatively
impacts any of the attributes highly valued by consumers.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
