Approved. When
INS initially submitted this package it included a revision of the
N-400 form. INS will not be using this form until summer 1999. This
approval is for the existing form which is attached. When INS
submits the renewal of this collection, it will submit the revised
form. Among the issues raised in discussions with INS over the
revised form that INS will need to resolve by the next submission
are: 1. Placing an appropriate disclaimer above the information for
criminal background check. 2. Discuss with FBI the need to ask the
race/ethnicity questions consistent with OMB guidance. 3. Reword
the questions on civics and history knowledge. 4. Ensure that
information collected electronically conforms with the paper form.
5. Take into account public comments received on the new form.
