This ICR for the
Use and Exposure Information Voluntary Project is approved for two
years. If EPA seeks renewal of this ICR, it shall demonstrate to
OMB's satisfaction that the information is being used in the RM-1
process primarily. Examples of how the data has improved risk
assessments would be helpful in presenting the utility of the data.
This approval to collect use informa- tion is based on EPA's need
to conduct assessments of specific chemicals. EPA would need to
demonstrate the need for broader collection of use information in a
separate ICR. The action taken by OMB for this ICR is independent
of any future use data considerations. EPA should not take any
negative action against respondents that do not participate in this
voluntary survey. In addition, EPA should work with chemical
manufacturers to stress the importance of maintaining confidential
business information to processors and end users of chemicals
whereby use information may jeopardize the competitiveness of these
firms. EPA plans to carryout this data collection with the
assistance and cooperation of the Chemical Manufacturers
Association and the Synthetic Or- ganic Chemical Manufacturers
Association. EPA may use this ICR twice a year.
