The National Health Interview Survey
(NHIS) is a multi-purpose health survey and is a principal source
of information on the health of the civilian, household population
of the United States. The NHIS is being redesigned for 1996 to
implement the use of the Computer Assisted Personal Interview
(CAPI) data collection system. This request is for approval of the
first phase and the overall description.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).

the proposed collection of information, that the certification
covers:
